Internal Architecture Breakdown

ASM eliminates the complexity of third-party logical volume managers by delivering purpose-built block storage virtualization. Data files are striped evenly across all disks within a Disk Group to eliminate hot spots.

When disks are added or decommissioned, ASM rebalances extents online without database downtime.
