Home/Glossary/Binlog vs Redo Log
Binlog vs Redo LogReplication & Durability

Binary Log vs. InnoDB Redo Log (Mantıksal vs. Fiziksel Log)

Redo log is InnoDB's engine-level physical recovery log for crash durability, while Binlog is MySQL Server's logical change log for replication and point-in-time recovery.

Internal Architecture Breakdown

MySQL maintains a dual-log architecture coordinated via internal XA Two-Phase Commit:

  • •Redo Log: Records low-level physical page modifications for instant crash recovery.
  • •Binary Log: Records high-level logical statement or row events (ROW format) for replica synchronization and point-in-time recovery.

Zero data loss requires pairing innodb_flush_log_at_trx_commit = 1 with sync_binlog = 1.

Production Inspection Queries
