Internal Architecture Breakdown

Legacy MySQL replication tracked binary log filenames and byte offsets, complicating automated failover during master crashes. GTID assigns a cluster-wide unique identifier (source_uuid:sequence_number) to each commit.

Standbys automatically negotiate missing transactions upon reconnecting to a promoted leader. Preventing errant local transactions on read replicas is paramount to avoid replication corruption.
