Library Cache Pin / MutexMemory & Architecture

Library Cache Pin & Mutex (Hard Parse Fırtınası Beklemesi)

Concurrency wait events and mutex contentions occurring when multiple sessions simultaneously compile, parse, or execute identical or unshared SQL cursors in the Shared Pool.

Internal Architecture Breakdown

Literal SQL strings without bind variables force Oracle into continuous hard parsing, flooding the shared pool with transient cursor objects.

Under concurrency, threads contend furiously for library cache mutexes, causing CPU starvation, latch contention spikes, and application timeouts. SRE mitigations include refactoring application queries to use bind variables or enabling CURSOR_SHARING = FORCE.

Production Inspection Queries

Oracle
SELECT event, total_waits, time_waited_micro/1000000 AS seconds_waited FROM v$system_event WHERE event LIKE 'library cache%' ORDER BY time_waited_micro DESC;
