Oracle RAC Split-Brain Protection & Node Fencing (STONITH)

The cluster fencing mechanism in Oracle RAC where Clusterware evicts and forcefully reboots a disconnected node to eliminate dual-master disk corruption risks.

Internal Architecture Breakdown

Oracle RAC features a shared-disk architecture where all nodes mount identical ASM storage. A network partition across cluster interconnect links threatens catastrophic data corruption if both sides operate concurrently.

Oracle Clusterware resolves partitions via Voting Disk heartbeat quorums: any node losing quorum is forcefully evicted and rebooted to preserve database integrity.
