Memory & Storage Model

SQL Server allocates 8KB data and index pages within the Buffer Pool. 'Max Server Memory' must be explicitly bounded to reserve headroom for the OS. TempDB requires multiple identically-sized data files to eliminate allocation page contention. In-Memory OLTP leverages lock-free memory structures.
